VIP, May 1996
Marshall Chasin
Marshall Chasin, M.Sc., Aud(C), FAAA, is one of the most respected and
admired figures in the field of hearing health. His work with musicians
and auditory problems associated with the performing arts make Marshall
a perfect choice as our VIP for the month of May, and we're very proud
to honor him.
Marshal is an audiologist and Director of Auditory Research at the Center
for Human Performance and Health Promotion in Hamilton, Canada. The center
is commonly referred to as the "Musicians Clinic". He is also
the Coordinator of Research at the Canadian Hearing Society, Instructor
of Experimental Phonetics at the University of Toronto, and Honorary Lecturer
in Communicative Disorders at the University of Western Ontario. Not a
bad list of credits, wouldn't you say?
For more than 15 years Marshall's been involved with hearing assessment
and hearing aid dispensing. He's the author of more than 80 clinically
based articles on hearing, hearing aids, hearing assessment, and auditory
problems associated with the performing arts. He's been a music industry
consultant and lectured world wide on the relationship between hearing
problems and musicians.
The newest venture for Marshall is his book, Musicians and the Prevention
of hearing Loss. The book is the first to take a look at every aspect
of the prevention of hearing loss and musicians and other performing artists.
Marshall writes with a descriptive clarity about hearing protection, musical
instruments, room acoustics. The book benefits musicians, sound engineers,
and audiologists, with its accurate and easy to understand style. The
book includes discussions of environmental strategies for the musician
and clinician, and specific case studies highlight the ideas. Marshall's
book is a valuable resource to anyone concerned with hearing health and
the prevention of hearing disorders. Friends of H.E.A.R. can order the
book by contacting Singular Publishing at 1-800-521-8545, or via email

Marshall Chasin's commitment to hearing health and to the music industry
is of tremendous significance to musicians, music lovers, and concert
fans. H.E.A.R. is very pleased to honor Marshall as this month's VIP,
and we're happy to bring his accomplishments to the attention of any of
our supporters not yet familiar with his great work. Thanks, Marshall,
you're definitely a H.E.A.R. sort of guy!
