Christian Talley Research Study on "Hearing Comparison
between Musicians & Non-Musicians".
Christian M. Talley, age 13, is the son of Jazz Musician
Ken Talley, Sr. and Gigi Talley. He is in the 7th grade at
The Altamont School in Birmingham, Alabama and is a member
of Unity of Birmingham. Christian likes art, photography,
music, reading and (of course) video games. He began his project
because he realized that many people listen to loud music
and he wanted to find out if it would have an effect on hearing
loss. So he thought about the fact that his father is a musician
and is constantly working in loud musical environments - unprotected.
Christian decided to base his project on hearing and musicians.
The musicians who participated in the study were of a variety
of backgrounds musically; jazz, rock, reggae, R&B, etc. Most
were of the same age range which can also be said of the non-musicians
who participated. Christian received the "Honorable Mention"
award for the "Junior Medical Division" of the southeastern
area science fair competition for grades 7 - 12 for The Altamont
School for his project "Hearing Comparison between Musicians
& Non-Musicians". He said that he would like for his project
next year to build on this one. H.E.A.R. is proud to recognize
Christian for his great talent and skills. Congratulations
Christian on your paper!
