October 7,2002 18th Annual TEC Awards at AES Wilshire
Grand Hotel Los Angeles, California

Hillel Resner President, Mix Foundation for Excellence
in Audio and Executive Producer of the TEC Awards
Noise-induced hearing loss from amplified music is a serious
and growing problem. Everyone involved in entertainment technology
has a personal stake in the battle for hearing safety, whether
it's your own, that of your employees, or the audiences we
all ultimately serve. With assistance from Mix magazine and
other industry supporters, the Mix Foundation for Excellence
in Audio (MFEA) raises thousands of dollars annually for Sound
Partners, a hearing conservation program of the House Ear
Institute (a world-renowned leader in otologic research and
education), as well as H.E.A.R. (Hearing Education and Awareness
for Rockers).
Sound Partners and H.E.A.R. present educational seminars,
conduct free hearing screenings and distribute free earplugs
at concerts and other events. But even with the sponsorship
monies raised by producing such renowned annual industry events
as the TEC Awards and the Mix L.A. Open golf tournament, the
MFEA contributions still fall short of the total necessary
to fully fund educational efforts about this vital issue.
The Mix Foundation is asking for your help in assisting it
to continue to increase its commitment to funding outreach
programs for hearing loss prevention. Individual gifts can
make a difference, whether it's $10, 25, $50 or more. Your
tax-deductible donation can be made online. Every donation
- large or small - moves us closer to the goal of a better
hearing future for everyone.
18th Annual TEC Awards, held in Los Angeles Monday, October
7 during the AES Convention. Hosted by actor/comedian Harry
Shearer, this year's event honors creative and technical Achievements
in recording and sound production, as well as presentation
of the Les Paul Award to Robbie Robertson and the induction
of Beatles engineer Geoff Emerick into the TEC Hall of Fame.

hearing problems and support the education of future audio
