WHAT: Ten of the Bay Area s hottest rock and pop music talents are getting together for a free concert to benefit H.E.A.R. (Hearing Education and Awareness for Rockers- www.hearnet.com), a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness of the real dangers of repeated exposure to excessive noise levels with improper protection.

The event will be held in Berkeley s People s Park Ü a legendary site built by and for the public -- to celebrate a local music scene that is thriving in the face of adversity of closing clubs and rehearsal spaces.

Proceeds from merchandise for the day will go to the H.E.A.R. organization in support of educating the public on an irreversible affliction that strikes up to 28 million Americans- hearing loss and tinnitus (note: some band members suffer from this). In addition, we will be distributing free earplugs.

WHEN: Saturday, Oct 14, 2000 12-5 p.m.

WHO: The concert will feature ten Bay Area bands whose paths have criss-crossed over the past couple years and which have become friends. These include: Buddhakowski (www.buddhakowski.com ) The Slow Poisoners (www.slowpoisoners.com) ing (www.ingdom.com) Lean (www.leanmusic.com) Brian Cline Band (www.briancline.com) East of Eden (www.eoemusic.com) Everythingnothing (www.everythingnothing.net) Nine Foot Nine (www.ninefootnine.com) Tinman (www.tinmania.com) Yellow Five (www.yellowfive.net).

WHERE: People s Park, Berkeley, California Ü a historic site of protest and independence in the Bay Area. One block east of legendary Telegraph Avenue between Haste St. and Dwight Way.

WHY THIS MATTERS: The H.E.A.R. Benefit Concert is the first event from a new and growing coalition of Bay Area artists who are banding together to help piece back together the splintering local music scene. The still fertile Bay Area arts community has been coming apart at the seams due club and rehearsal space closings as well as skyrocketing Bay Area living expenses. Rather than move to LA or Portland, many of the Bay AreaÍs artists are getting together to help one another.

BandSummit is the start of one new collective of artists who will be pooling their resources and talents to help promote original music in the Bay Area. Other activities being planned by the organization now include compilation CDs, benefit concerts, local and national music distribution, website development and gig exchange programs.
