Whereas, Hearing Education and Awarness for Rockers (H.E.A.R.
) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the prevention of hearing
loss and Tinnitus among musicians and music fans; and
Whereas, H.E.A.R. was formed in 1988 with the help of a donation
from Pete Townshend, of the Who with the goal of impressing upon the consciousness
of young people throughout the world the importance of protecting their
most important musical instrument-- their hearing; and
Whereas, More that eight million Americans suffer from hearing
loss and 80 percent of those affected have hearing damage that is irreversible
and permanent; and
Wheras, H.E.A.R. is conducting a public information campaign throughout
North America to highlight the importance of wearing hearing protection,
both at work and at concerts, and to that end, has donated 60,000 earplugs
to the 30 city Lollapalooza '96 concert tour; now
Therefore Be It Resolved, that I, Willie L. Brown, Jr., Mayor
of the City and County of San Francisco, recognize the value of the civic
contributions and education that this organization bestows upon our City
and do hereby proclaim the 27th day of June, 1996 as ...
